If you’re craving authentic Mexican flavors served with a side of genuine hospitality, Chino’s Taqueria in San Francisco’s Richmond District is a must-visit. Specializing in classic Mexican fare, this beloved eatery has built a reputation on hearty, flavor-packed dishes that satisfy both locals and visitors alike.
From the moment you step inside Chino’s, you’re enveloped in a cozy, unpretentious atmosphere that feels more like a friend’s kitchen than a restaurant. While ambiance leans toward casual and straightforward, the essence of the place shines through its passionate service — particularly from hosts like José, who make every guest feel welcomed with warmth and care.
The star of the menu is undoubtedly the Super Burrito, a generous, stuffed delight that balances savory meats with fresh, vibrant ingredients. Choose from an array of perfectly seasoned meats including Chili Verde, Spicy Chicken, Carne Asada, or Carnitas. For those seeking plant-based options, the Vegetariano Burrito and the Tortilla Spinach offer a fresh, satisfying alternative.
If tacos are more your speed, you’ll be equally impressed by the Super Tacos and Carnitas Tacos — each bursting with bold, well-balanced seasoning and generous fillings. The Shrimp Taco and Chicken Taco are also highlights, delivering fresh, zesty bites with every mouthful. Pair these with a refreshing Coke or indulge in a sweet finish of creamy Gelato.
For those moments when you need a handheld meal with serious crunch and flavor, the Super Quesadilla is a comforting option — perfectly grilled with rich cheese, tender meats, and optional extras like guacamole or sour cream to elevate every bite. If you’re sharing, the Regular Nachos are a generous, crowd-pleasing plate, overflowing with toppings and bold tastes that keep customers coming back for more.
The value is outstanding here — hearty portions at modest prices ($5.50 for a burrito, $3.40 for tacos) mean you can indulge without hesitation. Customers praise the consistently great quality and the dedication of the staff who have maintained their craft for decades, creating a touchstone spot for Mexican food lovers in the city.
Some longtime patrons note that while the space is simple and the tables can occasionally fall short of pristine, it doesn’t detract from the overall experience. This is a place where food takes center stage and the genuine passion for Mexican cuisine shines brightly.
Whether you’re a Bay Area local or just passing through San Francisco, Chino’s Taqueria offers a soulful taste of Mexico with every meal — robust, savory, and satisfying enough to keep you coming back time and again.
Perfect place to grab some grub quick. Burritos are hearty. Got the nachos today. Which are huge and filling. Miss having this a few blocks from us. But great for hitting up every time we're back in SF.
José is an amazing host and it felt like we walked into his living room for the best Mexican hospitality I’ve ever experienced at a restaurant. Delicious and magical in every way tytytyty!!
Huge Tacos, meat was seasoned to perfection and the staff were awesome. Definitely coming back.
Pros. 1. The best burrito I've ever tried in California so far. 2. Reasonable price 3. Cozy Cons. 1. The tables might not be clean.
Been coming here for over 30 years. Don’t live nearby anymore but if I’m in the area I tend to stop by to grab a burrito normally child verde or chicken. Been seeing the same staff behind there for a long time and still same great quality. You don’t come here for ambiance but the place is clean.
The tacos were ok. Pico de gallo was completely unseasoned. Also, they don't like to pay taxes and only take cash. Given that, $6.50 a taco is a little steep. Three tacos with coke ran me $23, and I would not say that I was full.
